The American-Polish Foundation for Education

The American-Polish Foundation for Education is a non-profit organization founded by Polish native Fred Bednarski.  Based in Austin, Texas, the APFE exists to promote and facilitate bi-national education focused on civic, social, business and technological entrepreneurship  between the United States and Poland.

The international relationships that develop as a result of APFE investments are targeted to increase opportunities for regional development in the United States, Poland and beyond.

The APFE seeks to establish a permanent fund to increase educational opportunities, cultural exchange and stimulate economic growth between the two nations.  APFE strives to be a catalyst organization to initiate socio-development in Eastern Europe and Russia.

"Economic systems work best when access to opportunity is fair, when free people can use their talents to help themselves and others prosper.  Aid can be a catalyst for development, but the real engines of growth are entrepreneurship, investment and trade"

Colin Powell

Former United States Secretary of State

Located in the heart of Europe, Poland has long served as a bridge between the east and the west, and the north and south of the continent.  Poland has one of Europe's youngest and best educated societies, excelling in mathematics, astrophysics, and other sciences.

We believe that establishing on going academic and economic relationships between the United States and Poland can bring significant benefits to both nations.

APFE's goal is a three tiered approach that raises awareness, builds bridges and establishes long term, mutually beneficial relationships.

APFE investments are targeted to increase opportunities for regional development in the United States, Poland and beyond.

The foundation's focus on entrepreneurship, commercialization and technology  transfers will promote discoveries that impact industry as well as scientific thought which is intended to spur advances in three areas: Civic, Social and Technological.

The Founder and Chairman of APFE, Zdzislaw Ferdynand (Fred) Bednarski, was born in Uscie Biscupie, Poland in 1936.

In 1942, the Bednarski family was taken from their home in Poland and relocated by German troops to a forced labor camp in Salzburg, Austria.

When the war finally ended and the Bednarski family was liberated from the camps, they still faced 4 years of waiting in a displaced persons camp  before they were able to finally immigrate to the United States.

Fred knows first hand the blessings of opportunity and freedom in America and has a passion for helping others.

Polish Professional Football League.

Fred Bednarski was the first soccer style kicker in American collegiate football and kicked the first soccer style field goal in NCAA history for Texas against Arkansas in 1957 as a part of Coach Darrell K. Royal’s first team at Texas.
